Leeds United finished the season with a 3-0 defeat at West Ham, but the result had little consequence for the Whites, and the Hammers were relegated.
Valentin Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson scored to ensure West Ham ended their disappointing season with a win at home. However, it didn’t matter as Tottenham won and it relegated the Hammers.
Daniel Farke would be disappointed that his side didn’t take their chances in the first half, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming under fire for missing a sitter.
Jamie Carragher didn’t mince his words for the Leeds striker, but another Whites star, Ethan Ampadu, received glorious praise from the Champions League-winning centre-back.
Ethan Ampadu earns more praise for being ‘a problem’ for the opposition
The former Liverpool defender insisted that the biggest problem facing Leeds this season has been Ethan Ampadu’s presence in the middle of the park.
He stressed that once he gets hold of the ball and midfield and starts spraying passes around, Leeds become a very difficult side to play against for anyone.
Carragher conceded that he has enjoyed watching Leeds and Ampadu operate in the way they have been all season.
He said on Sky Sports: “This is the problem when you come up against Leeds, they are really good on the ball, and they really work you around the pitch.
“Once Ampadu starts getting on the ball and starts controlling the game, it is a big problem for the opposition.
“He brings that quality, and Leeds are a real quality and accomplished Premier League side, and they look right at home in this league.
“They knock the ball around really well, better than a lot of sides, and they are a good side, and they have had a great season.”
He must be offered a new contract ASAP
Ampadu has a year left on his contract, and there is still no agreement between Leeds and the player’s representatives over a new deal.
Tying him down on a new deal is a priority for Leeds, given the importance of the club captain in the team, but he has yet to sign on the dotted line.
Leeds must look to finalise an agreement over a new deal with Ampadu and his agents soon, as he won’t be short of any suitors if the club delay it any further.
This must be the absolute priority in the coming days as Leeds cannot afford to lose Ampadu and his presence in the team in the summer.
