Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is under serious pressure after his side lost their fifth game in the last six Premier League games when they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
Morgan Rogers scored a brace to win all three points for Villa. Leeds were ahead in the first half through a fortuitous goal from Lukas Nmecha, but in the second half, the away side produced when it mattered.
Leeds didn’t deserve to lose, but they were toothless in the final third, and another good Premier League team made the most of their chances and walked away with all three points.
Farke was already fighting questions about his future at Leeds going into the Villa game. However, the scrutiny will increase, and the 49ers will have a decision to make.
Jamie Carragher warns Daniel Farke
Jamie Carragher is not known for sugarcoating his words, and he has provided a stark reminder of Farke’s standing at Leeds and in the Premier League.
He stressed that there were already calls for him to get sacked in the summer when Leeds just got promoted, as there were serious question marks about his horrid Premier League record.
However, he conceded that Leeds are in the bottom three for the first time this season, the scrutiny is going to increase, and talk of him getting sacked will return.
He stressed that Farke needs to find a way to get his team to play better and get results soon, or else the 49ers could wield the axe soon.
“In the summer, there was talk about [Daniel Farke’s] job on the back of a successful campaign in the Championship, Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“This is the first time they’ve been in the bottom three this season, so they need to get better.”
The onus is now on the 49ers
Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe and the 49ers group have backed Farke so far, and resisted talk of replacing him in the summer, despite misgivings about his Premier League record.
However, with Leeds in the bottom three after losing five of their last six Premier League games, it is getting very close to the breaking point for the board.
The 49ers have ambitious plans to turn Leeds into an established Premier League club with a huge valuation and soaring revenues. However, another relegation will ruin those plans.
The previous regime was too slow to sack Jesse Marsch in the 2022/23 season, and the 49ers do not want to make those same mistakes this time around.
This doesn’t look good for Farke, who is now approaching a run of three games where they will face Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
Farke is awfully close to getting the boot at Leeds, and as per Carragher’s warning, if it doesn’t get better, the axe will be wielded at Elland Road.
