Jamie Carragher gives relegation verdict on Brentford after Leeds United result
On Sunday, a late equaliser from Dominic Calvert-Lewin was enough to see Leeds take a point away from the Gtech Community Stadium. Jamie Carragher, who was analysing the game on Sky Sports, believes Brentford will go down this season:
“I thought it was vital for Leeds to get that late goal and that point. That is a very big goal from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
“If Brentford would have beaten Leeds, there would have been a great distance between them and that bottom four.
“I don’t believe for one minute that Nottingham Forest are going to get involved in a relegation battle.
“It would have looked almost like there was a bottom four there. What that goal for Leeds has done is just kept Brentford sweating, if you like.
“I don’t believe Fulham or Bournemouth will get involved in a relegation battle either. That’s why I think it was vital today, that late goal for Leeds.”
Carragher continued: “Brentford are one of those teams that you think could well be dragged into it (the relegation zone).
“I just think Brentford have a sweat on now. They would have loved to get those couple of points today and put Leeds on one less.
“When we went into the dressing room at full-time during Super Sunday, I think you got a real snapshot of the feeling in the Brentford dressing room.
“It was almost like the manager was trying to lift their spirits, because they knew how big that game was, playing a relegation rival at home. So I think Brentford will be disappointed.”
