Jamie Redknapp drops relegation verdict ahead of Everton v Leeds United clash – ‘Too good to go down’

Leeds United are set to travel to Merseyside to take on Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night, but results this weekend have added to the pressure on Daniel Farke’s men.

West Ham’s win over Sunderland has cut down the deficit with Leeds to just five points, and Bournemouth beat Liverpool 3-2 at home on Saturday to move up to 13th in the table.

Leeds have lost just once in their last nine games, and must be confident of getting a result at Everton, who have already lost four times at home in the Premier League this season.

However, this weekend’s results have added some pressure on Leeds, who are keen to ensure that they maintain a safe distance from the relegation zone for the rest of the campaign.

Bournemouth’s win over Liverpool pushed them up the table. However, their form going into the game was poor as they had one just once since November.

The result against the Reds changed the outlook, but the Cherries were being backed to get into the relegation dogfight until Saturday.

However, Redknapp feels that Bournemouth were always a team that were too good to go down, even in the absence of Antoine Semenyo, who joined Manchester City this month.

He expects the players Bournemouth have signed to make an impact and is certain that the Cherries will be safe this season.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “I believe this team are too good to go down.

“We have heard that before, and there is no Semenyo.

“But they have bought a couple of players and whatever recruitment team they do, I’d expect those players to hit the ground running.”

Bournemouth are not beyond Leeds’ reach

Bournemouth’s win over Liverpool have opened up a ten-point gap with the relegation zone, and they are now more than likely to stay up this season.

However, Leeds are not too far off and a win at Everton will bring them to within two points of the Cherries again in the Premier League table.

Andoni Iraola even admitted earlier in the season that Leeds physically dominated his side in a draw at Elland Road.

West Ham’s back-to-back wins are a worry for Leeds if they end up dropping points in the next few games. However, the Whites’ form suggests that they should look up rather than look over their shoulders.

Bournemouth may soon celebrate survival, but Leeds are not too far off and have every chance of pushing up the league table in the coming weeks.
