Leeds United fans hold few fond memories of Jesse Marsch’s spell in charge at Elland Road. The American is often blamed for the club’s relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season, despite being sacked midway through the campaign.
Marsch took charge of Leeds in early 2022 after the Whites sacked the hugely popular Marcelo Bielsa following a dreadful run of form. He managed to somehow steady the ship and keep Leeds in the Premier League on the final day of the season.
However, the American struggled to keep Leeds afloat the following campaign, and many felt that it was too late before the Whites decided to sack him and bring in a new manager to handle the crisis. The team were eventually relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
The American remains a deeply unpopular figure at Elland Road and is seen as one of the worst managers Leeds has had in recent years. However, he seems to have rebuilt his reputation at the international level, where he is now head coach of the Canadian national team.

Leeds United star Dan James receives praise from Jesse Marsch
Jesse Marsch saw very little of Dan James during his year-long stint as Leeds manager. He was loaned out to Fulham before the American was appointed in 2022.
The Leeds manager again agreed to loan out the winger to the Cottagers in the summer transfer window, and he was gone by the time the Welshman returned next year.
The Welsh winger has been pivotal in helping Leeds to get promoted, and continues to remain one of the most important members of the squad.
Marsch is a fan of the player and the person, despite loaning him out when he was the Leeds manager. The former Whites boss insisted that James is a quality and dynamic player.
“Dan James is a great guy”, he was quoted as saying by MOT Leeds News.
“A great player, really committed, a team guy. Very dynamic, high quality. I really like Dan as a person and as a player.”
Marsch will get a closer look at James tonight when his Canada team take on Wales in an international friendly.
