Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink criticises Leeds United ace after costly error – ‘I would have rather seen him…’

Everton Leeds United

Leeds United continued their fight for survival as they went away from home to face Everton on Monday night. Since the start of the New Year, the Whites have continued their form from late December.

Daniel Farke and his men are playing good football, while going toe-to-toe with the best teams in the Premier League. The tactical switch near the end of the year has brought the best out of the team and players, and now fans around the club are confident they can beat the drop at the end of the season.

The Whites were the away side on Monday night, but they dominated Everton for large stretches of the game. James Justin opened the scoring after finding himself in acres of space in the Everton boss. Unfortunately for Farke’s side that would be the only goal his team scored on the night, as the home side levelled in the 76th minute.

Before the equalizer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a glorious chance to put his side in the driving seat, but fluffed his lines. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was covering the game, criticized the England striker for not converting the chance:

“Can you open your body up and take it with your left foot, you have a bigger chance of scoring.

“I must say, he takes it toepoking, but I would have rather seen him open his body up and take it with his left foot.”

Leeds need another striker

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been very good for Leeds United this season, you could say he has been carrying the team. And while all that may be true; it is also true that sometimes he tends to miss big chances a lot. Before he went on this brilliant run of form from November, he was guilty of missing the most chances among Leeds United players.

The 49ers have already launched their plans to add some firepower alongside him, which is the best move the club can do at this point. Lukas Nmecha is a decent option off the bench, but is almost never available. Jorgen Strand Larsen, who is the major target, has a good injury history and a decent goalscoring record. If Leeds can snap him up for the rest of the season, it would be a huge boost.

Not only would opposing defences have to worry about two goal threats, but most importantly the Norwegian will take a lot of pressure off Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
