Leeds United invested heavily in the defence and midfield during this transfer window. The fans felt the attacking positions were neglected, and early in the season that was the case.
Leeds only scored one goal from open play in their first four league matches – their only goal in the opening win vs Everton came from the penalty spot. The team has found their scoring boots in recent games, scoring six goals in their last three matches.
But one part of the pitch the Whites have excelled in is the defence. Daniel Farke’s side have conceded 11 goals, which ranks in the middle of the park. But Leeds rank sixth in expected goals (xG) allowed – which means they have conceded more goals than the quality of shots faced. The club have faced around 7.9xG which ranks them near the top of the league alongside Manchester City and Liverpool.

Joe Rodon Credit: Imago
Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk have continued their solid partnership at the back this season. They were one of the best duos in the Championship and seem to have carried their form into the top flight. Both players have had some very great performances, and it looks like some clubs have taken notice.
According to TEAMtalk, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is a big fan of the Welsh defender. This comes after Wales coach Craig Bellamy revealed that he and Kompany tried to sign Rodon at Burnley.
Karl Darlow praises Joe Rodon
Karl Darlow who is Rodon’s teammate at club and national team level, agrees with Daniel Farke who said the defender has improved since he arrived in West Yorkshire.
“The manager came out and said everything that needed to be said about Joe. He’s an incredible player. Like you say, he’s a leader at the back.
“We’ve got a very good rapport and we’ve played a lot of games together, again for club and country.
“So, I feel like we’ve got a nice balance with the way that we play and back each other up when need be.”
All eyes will be on Joe Rodon this week, as Wales face England and Belgium during the international break.
