“If I’m a Premier League manager I’m snapping up some of their players” – John Mousinho

John Mousinho says he'd sign Leeds' top players if he were a Premier League manager

It looked like the promotion favorites were being handed a 3-point starter when Leeds United took on Portsmouth. The game was on opening day and would guarantee a flying start for The Whites.

But things went south quickly as the opener turned out to be a thriller for the worse. A 3-3 draw saw The 49ers close their opening day on a bad 1-point note against a recently promoted side.

At one point things looked dire but Aaronson made sure to open the campaign with at least a point in hand. The American turned out to be both the savior and the villain of the same game. Later, he missed an effortless chance that could’ve handed Leeds the win.

The departures have affected the club and as if that wasn’t enough Pompey manager John Mousinho has predicted more to come in the last three weeks of the summer transfer window.

“If I’m a Premier League manager I’m snapping up some of their players. Multi-million-pound players. I don’t know if many will go over the next three weeks, but I know I would be snapping them up”

-John Mousinho

In the post-match press conference, Mousinho predicted a busy transfer market for The Whites. A market against them rather than in favour which the club sorely needs.

The Pompey gaffer isn’t wrong in saying so. There have been more and more outgoing rumours as the days pass. The biggest one being Wilfried Gnonto who reportedly is ready to leave this summer.

Last summer, the Italian made a scene at the club but he’s quiet this time around letting the club decide his future. On the other hand, Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Sporting Director has admitted his interest in Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber.

Although the rumours have calmed down, the fact remains that Leeds’ players are quality but the depth issue remains. Incoming rumours with no high-profile signings make problems worse.

Apart from this prediction John Mousinho also talked about how United should have won the match. He believes that The 49ers deserved to win as the difference in squad quality is obvious on paper

“Difficult to sum up. Brilliant point. Poor week after the friendlies. Lads gave everything. Leed know they have been in a game. Gutted not to win. Good point. Leeds deserved to win the game, outstanding side.”

-John Mousinho

The result is out and there is no point looking into the past. The next game is against Middlesbrough in a Carbao Cup clash and The 49ers will look to make a positive start to the cup campaign this season.
