After a fantastic start to this summer window, Leeds United ended their business horribly. The recruitment team did a great job reinforcing the defence and midfield early in the window.

But as seen in the past few weeks, the lack of attacking signings has been very evident. In four games this season, Leeds have managed to score just two goals with one coming from the penalty spot. Daniel Farke was anticipating that the club would sign an attacker on deadline day, but no one came through the door.

Leeds made a late push to sign Harry Wilson from Fulham, but the deal collapsed right at the end before the deadline.

In the past few hours, it seems like former Burnley man Josh Brownhill has emerged as a serious candidate for Leeds United. As a free agent, he can sign for the club outside the transfer window. And with the lack of attacking options in the team, Brownhill could be key to that.

TEAMtalk have reported that the midfielder’s preferences include tactical fit, playing time and long-term ambitions. Outside that, there is also a huge offer from Saudi Arabia as well as interest from other clubs in the UK. Many teams are showing interest after the transfer window closed on Monday, as he is one of the high profile targets in the market.

Saudi factor will play a huge part

Ultimately, as a free agent, the main priority is to get paid. And since the club do not pay a transfer fee for you, you can demand a whole lot. From signing on fees to enormous wages, the player calls the shots. And in this case, Leeds will be up against a Saudi Pro League club. Over there, they have unlimited resources which make the league very attractive to players.

The Whites cannot compete with the offer or wages Saudi will present to Brownhill, but they can make an effort. It depends on the project Leeds can sell to Brownhill and how he will be a part of the team. Ultimately his financial package will be the biggest part, but the club can still make an attempt.
