Journalist Dan Bardell has conceded that Daniel James’ injury has come at the worst time for Daniel Farke with Leeds United already short of numbers in their frontline.
The Welshman started the first three games of the Championship campaign but was missing from Leeds’ 2-0 win over Hull City at Elland Road just ahead of the international break.
James missed Wales’ Nations League games against Turkey and Montenegro due to an injury and Farke admitted on Thursday that the winger is facing a lengthy layoff.
The winger is set to be out of action for another four weeks and is only expected to return to the pitch after the international break next month.
Bardell admitted that the timing of James’ injury is not ideal for Leeds as they look to build some momentum in the coming weeks.
The journalist conceded that Leeds United are light in wide areas without James
James has been a key part of Farke’s squad and the arrival of Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani made it look like Leeds would have several options in the wide areas.
However, the Welshman’s injury changes that and given the relentless nature of the Championship, Bardell conceded that a four-week layoff is far too long.
He pointed out that James’ injury means that Leeds have one less player from a forward line that already looked thin on paper due to the paucity of options.
“Four weeks is a long time in the Championship because we know how thick and fast the games come”, the talkSPORT journalist told MOT Leeds News.
“Leeds are in a position where they’ve already lost plenty of players from their front line so losing another one for four weeks isn’t ideal.
“Injuries happen and it is one of those things that they are going to have to deal with.
“Given what happened over the summer, it is probably the worst area of their squad to suffer an injury.“
