Journalist reveals England star could take a pay cut for next move – Leeds United linked with summer transfer

Newly promoted clubs who find themselves shopping in the Premier League often find themselves at a disadvantage. Leeds United may face these same situations this summer in the transfer market.

When trying to sign players from Premier League clubs, promoted teams tend to overpay when it comes to transfer fees and wages. Ipswich Town and Southampton spent a lot of money on these kinds of players last summer, but it failed to pay off during the season. Both teams have now been relegated back to the Championship.

Leeds United will be hoping to avoid such situations when the summer window opens.

Daniel Farke will have a big say in recruitment in the summer. Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe recently backed the German, and revealed that the club will be backed financially. According to reports this past week, Leeds will have a transfer budget of £150million.

The club have also been linked to Premier League targets. Farke could be eyeing some experience to bolster the squad before next season. Tomas Soucek, Sean Longstaff and Sam Johnstone have been linked with moves to Elland Road.

Jamie Vardy is another name that has been strongly linked to Leeds United. The 38-year old is a free agent this summer, and could be a solid addition to Daniel Farke’s team. Vardy has eight goals and four assists this season for a poor Foxes side. BBC Sports reporter Nick Mashiter has revealed that the Englishman could stay in the Premier League next season. He also adds that the veteran could be open to a pay cut for his next club:

”… you can rule out any links to Wolves.

The 38-year-old will likely have to take a pay cut for his next move but there is a clear inner belief that he can still play in the Premier League.”

Vardy should be a priority if he is willing to take a pay cut

Having a player like Jamie Vardy on the bench next season is a huge boost for his attack. He has shown that he can still perform at the highest level this season. If he does take a pay cut, he would be a perfect fit on this team. Vardy would contribute much more than both Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph – the duo had three league goals this campaign.
