Junior Firpo reveals stance on Leeds United future – Premier League promotion could play a key part

Leeds United have handled a lot of things well on their way to securing Premier League promotion. Despite a couple of hitches during the summer, the club has bounced back now.

Losing to Southampton last summer lead to the team losing three key players. Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray left Elland Road. The club somehow managed to pull everything together, ending the season with a Premier League ticket.

There are a few things you can criticize about the club this season. Leeds failed to back Daniel Farke in the transfer market in January, and missed out on most of his first choice players during the summer. The second is how the club have handled expiring contracts.

Junior Firpo speaks on Leeds United future

Two players are set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season – Junior Firpo and Sam Byram. Both of them play in key positions for the team where the depth is limited. If Firpo and Byram were to leave in the summer, the club would have just two fullbacks available.

Junior Firpo has been tight-lipped over his future, and recently gave an update after promotion:

“Last time that we spoke, I probably told you that I was focused on promotion. Promotion is done now. But I don’t know. I don’t know. I think it’s something to speak with the club about maybe when the season is done, you know, and they have more clear plans as well. Let’s see what happens.” he said to YEP.

Leeds need to re-sign Firpo

Over the last two seasons, the left back has actively been one of the better players on this Leeds United team. 17 assists over the past two campaigns show how much he has benefitted from playing under Daniel Farke.

With the club set for the Premier League, there should be no reason to let go of the 28-year old. There are not much better options on the market, despite Leeds having hundreds of millions to spend in the summer. Junior Firpo has played his way into a new contract, and all the club have to do is sign it.
