Junior Firpo reveals the player who convinced him to join Leeds United

Leeds United have captured their first major signing of the summer today. After a few weeks of negotiating, Junior Firpo is now a Leeds player resolving their left-back conundrum and filling the void left by Ezgjan Alioski yesterday. But why did Firpo pick Leeds out of the many potential suitors?

Well, in an interview with the club website, Firpo revealed the reasons why he chose to come to Elland Road and he identified the player who convinced him to join Leeds.

Speaking about the already prevalent Spanish connection in the Leeds squad thanks to Diego Llorente and Rodrigo, Firpo revealed that the latter helped convince him to sign for Leeds. He said: “I spoke with Rodrigo and he told me to come here.”

He also spoke about the influence of Victor Orta in the deal: “This summer there has been many clubs interested in me but when Victor spoke with me and told me the project I said ‘Wow, this is interesting and they really want me…I want to go to Leeds.'”

Unsurprisingly, he also talked about the importance of Marcelo Bielsa in his decision to pick Leeds: “I know the coach that he is and for me he’s a really good coach. He wants to press all the time and play one against one and for me this is my football.”

It looks like Firpo is sold on the club, it’s ideals and what it means to pull on that White jersey which should only get Leeds fans excited ahead of his Premier League debut. We should all expect him to kick on under Bielsa and maybe bring European nights back to Elland Road.
