Jurgen Klopp tipped to have shock impact at Leeds United

Jürgen Klopp has now become a big part of the future of Leeds United over the past few months.

After Red Bull bought a minority stake in Leeds United earlier this year, the German coach secured a role in their football operations. Klopp was named Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull and will start work in January 2025.

The major part of the deal was Red Bull becoming the shirt sponsor of Leeds United for the long term. However, when it comes to the running of the club, the 49ers are very much still in charge of things.

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe was very clear that Red Bull would only be investment partners. There were fears from many Leeds fans initially that the club would become another Red Bull Liepzig or Red Bull Salzburg who had to change their club badge and colours.

Klopp’s role at Red Bull would involve overseeing operations of the clubs under the global giant, and would mainly involve working with the recruitment side.

Now, TNT Sports commentator Ian Darke has claimed Jürgen Klopp could directly be involved in Leeds United transfers in the near future:

“I think Klopp is sensible enough to feel his way through the relationship he’ll have with Farke and Leeds United,”

“If he thought in any way he was cramping his style or impeding him, he would feel that’s not what his role is.

“Leeds are just one of the clubs part of the Red Bull empire and you wonder the extent of what say Klopp would have in anything like selection or recruitment, or the general approach.”

Red Bull’s recruitment policy involves scouting young players to sell for the future.

“He’s been a manager for long enough to know he shouldn’t tread on any toes, and rather give a general hand of guidance.

“The Red Bull link-up will likely help Leeds in the transfer market, and Klopp could provide a connection.”

Would Red Bull transfer influence be a bad thing?

The club is still recovering from the summer transfer window of 2022 under Jesse Marsch. The former Red Bull coach brought in over €80million worth of talent from Red Bull clubs, and the success rate was not good.

Only two players have survived since then, Max Wöber and Brenden Aaronson. The rest left the club or are currently on their way out of the club, like Rasmus Kristensen. Another “Red Bull” window would not go down well with the fans at Elland Road.
