Leeds United face Nottingham Forest as they look to secure a massive win, whilst a gruelling relegation battle looms.

United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has called for immediate focus ahead of a key Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, but his assessment of a heavy defeat to Arsenal may not sit well with frustrated supporters.

While urging his side to move on, the Welsh shot-stopper’s characterisation of key moments during the Whites’ most recent loss at Elland Road against Arsenal will surely rile up supporters.

Karl Darlow feels ‘small mistakes’ cost Leeds against Arsenal

Speaking ahead of Friday night’s match at Elland Road, Darlow reflected on the 4-0 loss. “Arsenal was a tough game,” he told Premier League Productions (via Leeds United’s official website) “Unfortunately, it went the wrong way for us, which is just one of those things. In the Premier League, you get punished for small errors and small mistakes.”

This assertion may spark debate among fans who saw two significant goalkeeping errors contribute directly to the scoreline.

  • Darlow had -2.49 goals prevented during the game against Arsenal
  • The Welshman did manage to make four saves; however, his errors proved to be costly during the game

Darlow failed to deal with Noni Madueke’s inswinging corner for Arsenal’s second goal, fumbling the ball over the line.

He was also arguably at fault for the third goal, a powerful Viktor Gyokeres volley that he might have done better to save. Labelling such impactful moments as “small mistakes” could be seen as downplaying their consequence in a season where fine margins define survival battles at the end of the season.

Karl Darlow previews pivotal Nottingham Forest clash

The focus now turns to a direct competitor. Friday’s encounter against Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest represents a major six-pointer.

Darlow is wary of the threat, highlighting their potent attack. “I think there is a very direct way about Forest and very threatening in terms of what they have,” he analysed. “They have that quality in the midfield, and they have the quality on the wings and up front that can hurt you. So, we need to be wary of that.”

His message aims to rally the squad and fans, putting the controversy behind them. “Friday night at Elland Road – it is one to be excited about as a player, and obviously, the fans get excited. Everyone will be fully motivated to try and get a really positive result.” Darlow added.

For Darlow, producing a flawless performance against Forest will be the most effective way to move the conversation on from those costly errors.
