The ongoing Illan Meslier saga at Leeds United does not seem to be going away anytime soon. Meslier was though to be leaving Elland Road after the events of this season.
Daniel Farke made the bold call to drop the Frenchman after a series of errors. Leeds were deep into the title run in, and a poor run of form compounded the issues even more. Meslier’s errors against Swansea saw the Whites drop points, making Farke finally bite the bullet.
Meslier was benched in favour of Karl Darlow who was in goal till the end of the season. Leeds ended up winning the Championship, conceding just three goals in the last seven games.

Leeds United star could make shock u-turn
There has been some interest in Meslier lately, but no club have officially made a bid as it stands. And Leeds are in the market for a new goal keeper. But the Whites have only been linked to some names, and there are no talks being held.
This latest news surrounding Illan Meslier could factor in his future at the club. Patrick Bamford shared what happened with the 25-year old when he was initially dropped by Daniel Farke:
“I said to him, ‘You’ve played how many games? You’ve done your bit, there are six games to go, you’re angry, don’t show it’. he said on the ‘Fozcast‘.
“If you’re are angry, hopefully we go up and you have eight weeks to just mull about it.
“He actually did all right. After the Swansea game, Illan spoke and backed Karl, and said even if I’m dropped, I’m still here for everyone.”
Bamford also spoke on the criticism he has received during his Leeds United career.
Could Meslier be in goal next season
Considering Patrick Bamford’s revelation, Meslier might not be done with Leeds. It takes a lot of maturity to accept being benched at the most crucial part of the season, and still support your teammates. Some players would have thrown a tantrum to affect the dressing room.
And if Daniel Farke’s search for a new number one does not find any suitable replacements, Meslier might very well start next season as the club’s number one.
Er….no!
That will be the difference! Staying in the EPL or going straight back to the Championship. The reason no one has made a bid is beacause Meslier just isn’t good enough. Pope would be ideal, once Toon sign Trafford from Burnley
