Latest on Leeds United target Caomhin Kelleher – Liverpool exploring options

The goalkeeping situation at Leeds United has still not been resolved. With just days left to the start of the summer window, news surrounding potential arrivals has died down.

Illan Meslier is still at the club after multiple reports that he would leave. The Frenchman was benched by Daniel Farke during the run in, a decision that ultimately won Leeds the league title.

The club have been linked with a host of names, the start of the transfer window could see a lot of action. But the goalkeeping position will be a priority this summer.

Kelleher ended this season with Liverpool, winning the Premier League. It has been widely reported that this summer could be his last at Anfield. The keeper has been an impressive deputy to Alisson, and is now keen on a move to a club where he can be first choice. Leeds United are one of the clubs with ‘definite’ interest according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Whites are not alone in the race – Kelleher is being chased by Brentford and Aston Villa this summer. Brentford could be in the market for a new keeper as Bayern Munich pursue a deal for Mark Flekken. Villa are also set to lose Emi Martinez. Both clubs are pushing to secure their next first choice stopper.

It is believed Liverpool will sell the Ireland international for a fee around £30million.

What happens next?

Leeds have a lot to do to convince Kelleher to join the club. Brentford and Villa can offer better prospects, including European football. But nothing is impossible in football. If the Whites managed to land Kelleher, it would be a huge boos to their survival hopes next season.

A quality keeper can be the difference between safety and relegation.
