Leeds’ 23-year-old returnee aims to redeem himself and propel team to promotion

Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson has reportedly raked in overseas interest

Following a loan spell at Union Berlin last season, Brenden Aaronson will spend the 2024-25 campaign with Leeds United. The Whites will look to earn promotion to the Premier League and avoid a third straight season in the campaign.

Aaronson joined Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and has since made 46 appearances for the English club, scoring three goals and three assists.

Following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League in 2023, the American player wasn’t part of the first Championship season as the club fell short of reaching the top flight, losing the Championship Play-off Final to Southampton.

Meanwhile, Aaronson made 38 appearances across all competitions for Union Berlin, scoring two goals and registering two assists. Nonetheless, it would be a one-and-done season for the United States native as he returned to Leeds following the 2023-24 season.

Brenden Aaronson is ready to redeem himself at Leeds

Before Leeds’ match against Burnley, which they lost 1-0, Aaronson spoke about being back at Elland Road for this season. The 23-year-old noted his desire to redeem himself in his second stint with Leeds.

“It is tough sometimes in moments, mentally and physically,” Aaronson told Sky Sports (h/t Leeds Live). “I have the drive; I know what I want to do this season. I knew I needed to come in and show my worth and show how good I can be. Coming in, I had to be confident and that is what I have tried to be. It is not easy but it has been made easier with the teammates and the coaching staff we have here.”

This season, Aaronson is off to a good start scoring two goals in six matches across all competitions for Leeds. Moreover, the American wants to play a role in helping the English side reach the Premier League this season.

“We want to get back up to the Premier League because that’s where I think this club deserves to be but I know how tough the Championship is,” Aaronson added. “I’ve heard from friends that it’s not an easy league. The goal is to get points and win games so we have to work well as a team.”
