Brandon Aaronson is with the United State’s national team this FIFA international window. On Saturday, the 23-year-old played his first contest under new manager Mauricio Pochettino and he’s earned praise for his performance.

Aaronson played 78 minutes for the Argentine manager, recording two total shots and one key pass in the matchup. The American also had 27 touches while completing 14 of 16 passes, recording an 88 percent completion percentage.

The midfielder struggled to win his duels, winning only two of eight. Nonetheless, the player was praised for his involvement in the opening goal for the U.S.

Former USMNT player praises Brandon Aaronson

In the opening goal for the U.S. while not receiving an assist or scoring the goal, former USMNT player Jimmy Conrad praised Aaronson for his role in the play that led to the goal scored by Yunus Musah.

“Love Jedi doing work to keep possession high up the field,” Conrad wrote on X. “Love Pulisic and Aaronson working their magic to get space in-behind for the cross. Love Musah’s anticipation to get in a good spot. Love this first goal of the Pochettino era!”

Aaronson recently mentioned that the team has already started to learn from the Argentine boss, which has added to the “buzz and excitement.”

“We’ve already learned a lot,” Aaronson said (h/t ESPN). “We learned about the style of play that we want to play today at training.

“One thing that we know for sure that we’ve really rehashed is the intensity of what we want to play at. We want to play at a high intensity. We want to play in the other team’s half. We want to have possession of the ball. He wants a confident team and that’s what we’re going to be.”

Aaronson and the United States will travel to Mexico for a clash with the Mexican national team on Tuesday night. After that match, the Leeds standout will have to rush over to the UK for Leeds’ highly anticipated contest against Sheffield United.

It will be interesting to see how Aaronson returns and whether he can perform his best this Friday at Elland Road against the Blades.
