The Championship is a long and grueling league campaign, with a busy schedule beginning for Leeds United on Saturday. One player for the Whites recently stated that the squad will take this approach in the next few games to ensure a successful run.
Leeds facing Coventry City is the start of three games in one week. Daniel Farke and his team will play host to the Sky Blues, and after that, they have a Tuesday clash against Norwich City; then, on Friday, the Whites face Sunderland.
The marquee matchup in this stretch of matches will be against Sunderland, considering they’re currently second in the table. Moreover, it’s an opportunity for Leeds to show they can go toe-to-toe with clubs who are promotional rivals.
So far this season, Daniel Farke and his team have drawn with West Bromwich Albion and lost to Burnley. As a result, Leeds could use a win over Sunderland.
Illan Meslier talks about the busy slate of matches ahead for Leeds
While many supporters have that Sunderland match circled, Illan Meslier notes that the squad is taking each game day by day and not looking ahead, knowing that securing three points, regardless of what club it is.
“We need a lot of training and matchday to fit, to have a good relation between each other,” Meslier explained to LUTV. “It’s normal that it takes time, but we are in the right direction and this is the most important.
“We know we will travel a lot after Coventry, so we just need to be very prepared and analyse as much as we can on the opponent. But we know already how they will play because we faced them already. Obviously, you know, it’s just taking game after game, being very focused and concentrated to take three points for each game.”
Last weekend, Leeds recorded another clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City. The Whites have kept four clean sheets in their last five league outings, so while the attack figures out how to consistently score goals and finish their chances, their defending is holding down the fort.
It will be interesting to see if Meslier and his teammates can hang another clean sheet.
