Leeds and Manchester United are interested in Torino’s Nicolas Nkoulou, according to Tuttosport.
The 30-year-old centre-back is out of contract in the summer and can now sign a pre-contract with an English club.
Nkoulou has been on the radar of Leicester in recent seasons and the Foxes are believed to be keeping an eye on the situation.
A consistent and reliable player, Nkoulou has been capped 75 times by Cameroon since making his international debut at the age of just 17 in 2008.
He’s played 364 top level games for Monaco, Marseille, Lyon and Torino and has been named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year on two occasions.
Given the Cameroonian’s services won’t require a transfer fee, clubs are expected to table big contract offers.
This will likely play into the hands of Man Utd who have the biggest budget and the potential of Champions League football next season.
However it might not be that straight forward with Nkoulou wanting the guarantee of regular first-team football, which could help Leeds try fix their problems at the back.
Nkoulou played under Whites’ boss Marcelo Bielsa in Marseille and Nkoulou was a favourite of the maverick Argentine during his time in charge at the Stade Vélodrome.
With Leicester hesitating on entering the race, it looks like a war of the roses will take place to sign Nkoulou.
Both clubs are expected to table contract offers this week with Nkoulou free to sign a pre-contract with any European club outside Italy.
