Leeds announce friendly against Monaco

Leeds have announced a third friendly prior to their return to Premier League action, as they host Ligue 1 side AS Monaco at Elland Road on 21 December.

The fixture comes a week before the Whites’ first game back after the mid-season World Cup break, one which sees them take on current league champions Manchester City on home turf on 28 December.

The West Yorkshire side have already confirmed two friendlies against Spanish teams Elche on 8 December and Real Sociedad on 16 December.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm, with tickets for the clash on sale for season ticket holders since 2:30pm this afternoon [2 December]. Juniors (anyone under the age of 16) can take advantage of a special offer being run by the club which sees tickets being sold for just £1.

Further information can be found on the club’s website.

Building momentum

These friendlies provide Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch with the ideal opportunity to assess individual player fitness, as well as ensure the team is performing well as a unit ahead of the Premier League’s return following the break in the season.

It also gives the American room for experimentation with his side, as he can alter formation, personnel, and tinker with respective player roles in a risk-free setting.

Despite this, a win or two would certainly go a long way towards building confidence and a sense of momentum within the squad, something which should also transmit into the support of the Elland Road faithful.

With an incredibly tough game against Manchester City awaiting Leeds as the domestic season resumes, any momentum gained in these friendlies could prove vital in securing a positive result on 28 December when the league champions come calling.
