Leeds United have officially secured their Premier League status after West Ham were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at the London Stadium.
The Hammers thought they had rescued a late point, only for VAR to rule the goal out and hand Arsenal all three points in the capital on Sunday.
That result moved Arsenal a step closer to winning their first Premier League title in 22 years, while leaving West Ham staring at the possibility of relegation with only two games remaining.
The Hammers are now just one point behind Tottenham, who still have a game in hand, and they will be desperate for Leeds to get a result against Spurs in north London on Monday night.
Alan Pardew drops Leeds warning for Tottenham
Tottenham are expecting to face a more relaxed Leeds side after they confirmed Premier League survival. However, Alan Pardew believes it could have an opposite effect.
He insisted that the pressure of getting relegated is no longer on Leeds, which could help them play with more freedom and look unhinged against Tottenham.
The former Premier League manager insisted that an unhinged Leeds could be a real problem for Tottenham, who are not out of the woods yet.
Pardew said on talkSPORT: “The psychological factor here has helped Leeds.
“It has helped Spurs, but it has helped Leeds more because they can literally now say we are Premier League players, all our finances are in place for next year, and let’s go and have a game tomorrow.
“They could play with real freedom tomorrow, unhinged by the pressure that comes from maybe getting relegated.
“So that does put a little bit of jeopardy on that game.”
What could we expect from the Whites?
With survival now effectively secured, Leeds can head into their final three Premier League games with a little less pressure on their shoulders.
Still, Daniel Farke will be determined to keep standards high and make sure his side finish as strongly and as high up the table as possible.
There is still plenty at stake financially depending on where Leeds end the season, and that could make a real difference when it comes to the club’s summer transfer plans.
Tottenham, on the other hand, will be hoping Leeds take their foot off the gas slightly on Monday night as Spurs look for a vital home win in their own fight for survival.
