Leeds United have now officially secured their place in the Premier League after West Ham’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The Hammers believed they had snatched a late equaliser, but VAR intervened to disallow the goal and ensure Arsenal left with all three points.
The result moved Arsenal closer to a first Premier League title in 22 years, while piling even more pressure on West Ham with just two matches left to play.
West Ham now sit one point behind Tottenham, although Spurs still have a game in hand, meaning the Hammers will be hoping Leeds can take something from Monday night’s clash in north London.
A Leeds warning dropped for Tottenham on talkSPORT
Following Sunday’s result, the focus has shifted to the Tottenham vs Leeds clash tonight, and it was the topic of discussion between Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT Breakfast.
West Ham have pinned their hopes on Leeds getting a result against Spurs, while Tottenham are expecting a more relaxed Whites’ team in north London.
However, Stelling has insisted that Daniel Farke’s Leeds squad do not look like a set of players who’d drop their intensity once survival was confirmed.
Agbonlahor insisted Leeds still have a lot to play for and they can genuinely finish higher in the table, even above Newcastle United, by the end of the season.
Stelling said, “I don’t know why, but I look at the Leeds squad, and they don’t strike me as a squad that will down tools just because they are safe.”
Agbonlahor added, “There’s no reason why they can’t catch Newcastle in 13th place, only three points in it with two games to go.
“Two winnable games as well for Leeds.”
Daniel Farke would not let his team relax
With survival now all but wrapped up, Leeds can approach their final three Premier League matches with a bit more freedom and less pressure.
Even so, Daniel Farke will still expect high standards from his players and will want them to finish the season as strongly as possible.
There is also still significant prize money to play for, depending on where Leeds finish in the table, which could have an important impact on the club’s summer transfer plans.
Tottenham, meanwhile, will be hoping Leeds ease off slightly on Monday night as Spurs chase a crucial home victory in their own battle to stay up.
