Leeds figure defines huge test Daniel Farke faces ahead of West Ham game

Daniel Farke

Saturday’s defeat at Turf Moor came as a bit of a shock to Leeds United fans. Before the game, the Whites were considered favourites due to their form early in the season.

Scott Parker’s side had not won in the Premier League since August before Leeds came to town. Last Saturday was once again a game where the Whites failed to take their chances. All those misses came back to haunt them as the Clarets settled the game in the second half.

The loss could be another crucial turning point for Leeds, just like the Fulham game after the last international break.

Aidy White says Leeds United team selection on Friday will test Daniel Farke

Farke chose to move Ao Tanaka to the bench for Sean Longstaff, and introduced Brenden Aaronson into the starting lineup. It did not quite work out in the loss at Craven Cottage, but huge results against Bournemouth and Wolves showed a lot of positives.

But in the game against Burnley, there were a lot of players out there that played poorly. Former Leeds man Aidy White thinks that the team Daniel Farke selects on Friday will tell a lot about the players at the club at this point of the campaign:

“And I think, going forward, the West Ham game will speak volumes in terms of his team selection, on what Daniel Farke’s mindset is with the players, and who he trusts and who he doesn’t.

“If he doesn’t make changes, I’ll be extremely surprised.

“Because, I thought, he’d potentially might put Bijol for this [Burnley] game.

“There is no doubt now, that he probably has to now put in him for the West Ham game.”

Some players need to be dropped after poor form

Leeds managed to put up great performances, and should have arguably gotten more points, against Bournemouth and Spurs. But some players have dipped after starting the season well. Anton Stach has come under scrutiny after Saturday’s game; and some Leeds fans are questioning Pascal Struijk’s place in the team. Karl Darlow is also not safe after his last few performances. It will be interesting to see who makes the lineup when West Ham visit Elland Road.
