Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is starting to feel the pressure after a slow start to the 2024-25 season. One journalist recently offered insight into how the situation could play out for Farke moving forward.
The Whites are currently outside the top six, occupying ninth place in the Championship table. Moreover, the squad has struggled in the goal-scoring department, as three of the six matches they’ve played this season have resulted in no goals.
With the January transfer window still months away, Leeds will need to figure out their scoring problems with what’s on their roster. If the squad cannot figure out how to score goals consistently, all eyes will turn to Farke.
Graham Smyth on Daniel Farke’s future
Amid rumblings over a potential sacking, if the slow start persists, journalist Graham Smyth provided an update on the German’s future at Elland Road. Furthermore, Smyth dispelled rumors that Farke will be sacked if the inconsistent performances continue.
“What happens if they drop two or three in a row?” Smyth said on the Inside Elland Road podcast (h/t Give Me Sport). “You know? What happens if they draw one, lose one, draw one? What’s the atmosphere going to be like around the team at that stage?
“So I think there is a bit of a concern there, but I don’t think it’s hysteria, and I certainly don’t think that the 49ers will be considering his position. I’ve seen suggestions from people that if they lose to Cardiff, he should go.
“I think I would ask people just to look at the evidence of what Farke can do in this division, both for Norwich and for Leeds last season, and think, is there a more natural appointment than Farke? I mean, when he was appointed, was anyone saying, ‘no, no, he’s not the one? There’s a better one out there.’ I don’t think anyone was.”
A win over a Cardiff City team that’s bottom of the Championship table will quiet the conversation over a sacking. However, Leeds need to start defeating teams that are promotional threats, and so far, they drew against West Bromwich Albion and lost to Burnley.
Their next major test will come on October 4th when they face Sunderland in what is going to be a challenging month with matches against Sheffield United and Watford also occurring.
