Leeds finally closing in on 22-year-old striker Bielsa has hunted for two years

You might say Leeds don’t need another striker. Last season Patrick Bamford was more than impressive. In terms of English strikers, only Harry Kane out scored the ex-Middlesbrough front man. Meanwhile, the Whites also have Spanish sensation Rodrigo who can cover the centre forward role.

But as United look to cement their status as a top half club in the Premier League, they may need greater depth in key positions. Thus, it’s not that surprising to see Leeds pursuing a deal for one of the Championship’s best young strikers.

Ben Brereton has been tracked by Leeds for the past two years after he impressed against the Whites in the Championship in Marcelo Bielsa’s first season according to RedGol. Moreover, the report suggests that Bielsa is very keen on the Blackburn striker and Leeds are ready to pull the trigger on a deal to bring him to Elland Road. Helping the logistics of any deal is the fact Brereton is about to go into the final year of his current deal with the Rovers.

Brereton racked up 11 goals and assists last term so can clearly create for himself and others. He’s also in very good form as of right now having opened his international account for Chile at the Copa America.

At just 22 years of age, he has plenty of time to develop and under Bielsa he could soon become an exciting frontman. He’d certainly provide much needed depth in a key position for the Whites.
