Leeds United secured a 2-0 away win over Cardiff City on Saturday, but one journalist wasn’t impressed by the performance.

Before the match between Cardiff City and Leeds United kicked off, there was an emotional tribute to Sol Bamba, who had played for both clubs. Once the ball got rolling, the Whites received a boost in the 23rd minute, allowing them to play with an advantage for most of the contest.

Cardiff City defender Joel Bagan earned a straight red card after committing a last man foul. Leeds quickly made the most of their one-man edge as Largie Ramazani scored in the 30th minute, and the away side took a 1-0 lead.

Daniel Farke and his team recorded 11 shots in the first half. Meanwhile, the Bluebirds only had one shot, as the squad couldn’t adapt to playing with 10 men. Nonetheless, in the second half, Leeds couldn’t put the game away until the later stages.

Leeds unable to put away Cardiff City

In the final 45 minutes, many would expect Leeds to put away a bad Cardiff City side, but that wasn’t the case. The White only recorded four total shots in the second half, but in the 87th minute, Joël Piroe, who came on as a substitute, scored to provide the insurance goal.

Following the win, journalist Graham Smyth went on X to provide reaction to the result. He noted that performance wasn’t inspiring, but the squad needed the three points, especially after losing to Burnley last weekend.

“Drab for the most part,” Smyth said of Leeds’ form throughout the match. “Very drab. But important to win this one.”

A win is a win and Leeds leave Wales with all three points. The victory puts Farke’s squad back in the top six, but there will still be questions regarding this performance against Cardiff City.

Leeds will now turn the page and focus on another club that’s at the bottom of the Championship table in Coventry City. The Whites will host the Sky Blues next Saturday and will be a favorite to win this contest as they look to get back into striking distance of the top two spots.
