Leeds forward taken off after 20 minutes with ankle injury

Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto has picked up an ankle injury in Italy’s game against Malta.

On his tenth appearance for the Azurri, Gnonto limped off with an injury after 22 minutes in their EURO 2024 qualifier. Initial footage sees him twist his ankle when trying to dribble the opposition defenders in the penalty area.

The forward tried to carry on for a few more minutes, and even tried to sprint during that time. However, he had to give up when landed badly again and was in too much pain to continue. Gnonto was treated on the pitch, before being helped off to be replaced by Vincenzo Grifo.

A twitter user was able to capture the incident:

The Italian has had a bright start to his career at Leeds United, scoring four goals and setting up three for his teammates in all competitions this season.
