Leeds United’s injury woes continue to worsen in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City on Tuesday night at Carrow Road.
Ethan Ampadu, Manor Solomon, Dan James, and Max Wober are all out with injuries. Furthermore, Ampadu, who can play in the midfield and defense, likely won’t come back this year.
The Whites were already thin in the midfield, with their captain out until the early weeks of 2025, and now the position could be getting thinner. Leeds conceded the first goal of the match to Josh Sargent in the 15th minute.
Norwich went into halftime nursing a 1-0 lead, but in the 60th minute, Wilfried Gnonto connected with Largie Ramazani to level the scoring for the away side. Leeds would take a point, but it would come at a cost.
Ilia Gruev is the latest Leeds player to suffer an injury
Five minutes after conceding the first goal of the match, Daniel Farke and his team suffered a second blow, with Ilia Gruev leaving the game in the 20th minute. After the draw, Farke confirmed that the midfielder suffered a knee injury that led to his exit from the match.
“Not good enough to keep going,” Farke said (h/t Leeds Live). “Knee injury. Struggled to turn. Have to wait for the assessment. Tomorrow there will be a scan. Does not look great at the moment. Ao and Joe stepped up.
“Second half, positioning, first game together, we were open and could not control their counters. No criticism. Happy they delivered, especially Ao n their first proper league game. We will learn from this and improve positioning. Compliments to these lads in these circumstances.”
Leeds aren’t out of the woods yet as they still have a match on Friday night to cap off three games in one week. The Whites will face promotional rival Sunderland as the two sides will be looking to take all three points to hurt an opposition that’s vying for the top two automatic promotion spots.
Following this contest, Leeds will catch a break with the FIFA international break. However, some players will be heading out to their respective national teams, and the risk of injury will worsen the situation.
