Leeds United might have found their consistent goal scorer from the No. 9 position in Joël Piroe. Moreover, a stat shows the impressive form that the Dutchman is currently displaying.
On Friday night against Sunderland, Piroe again showed he can help carry the goal-scoring on the team. Chris Rigg got the home side off to a strong start, scoring just nine minutes in to give his team a 1-0 lead. But the Whites quickly answered back, with Piroe equalizing in the 22nd minute.
The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1. Leeds took the lead early in the second half when Junior Firpo scored in the 56th minute, a goal that looked like it might seal the victory. However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, a costly mistake from Illan Meslier allowed Sunderland to grab a late equalizer.
Alan Browne’s cross deflected off Firpo’s head, and as Meslier lunged for the ball, it slipped through his fingers and rolled into the net, giving Sunderland a crucial point.
Joël Piroe is riding an impressive goal-scoring form
Despite Leeds conceding the game-tying goal in disappointing fashion, it shouldn’t take away from the impressive form that Piroe currently finds himself in. LUFC Data spotlighted on X that Piroe has found the net with all four of his shots on target recently.
The Leeds forward is averaging a goal every 62 minutes in the Championship, which is the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the division for the 2024-25 season (+2 goals).

Daniel Farke and his team need to regroup after the international break as they prepare to host Sheffield United, a key promotion rival, at Elland Road on October 18.
Having come close to claiming all three points against league leaders Sunderland, Leeds knows they must secure a win. They haven’t been able to beat any of the clubs competing for the top two automatic promotion spots to the Premier League.
So far, the Whites have drawn with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion and lost to Burnley. With that in mind, a victory over the Blades is essential, and Piroe can play a major role in ensuring the squad secures all three points.
