Joël Piroe was being challenged in a positive manner to take the Leeds United goal-scoring duties and put it on his shoulders. It seems the 25-year-old got the message as he came off the bench to score the insurance goal late in the second half.
The Bluebirds ran into trouble when defender Joel Bagan was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul, leaving his team a man down. Leeds wasted no time capitalizing on the advantage, with Ramazani finding the back of the net in the 30th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Many anticipated that Leeds would capitalize on a struggling Cardiff City side in the second half, but that didn’t happen. Leeds managed just four shots in those 45 minutes, and it wasn’t until Piroe found the back of the net in the 87th minute that the Whites could rest easy.
Former player urges Joël Piroe to take over goal-scoring duties
Former English standout Don Goodman has urged Piroe to believe in himself if he wants to succeed at Leeds. Goodman spoke to MOT Leeds News before the match against Cardiff City and noted traits he wants to see from the Dutchman.
“There’s an opportunity there for Joel Piroe at a huge club, and the gauntlet has now been thrown down to him,” Goodman told the outlet.
“He has to fight and play so well that he starts week in, week out. Anything other than having the thought that you can be the best version of yourself and get in the team regularly is a silly thought.
“He had an okay season last season but found it difficult to be the main man in a talented squad. He’s himself talented and Leeds fans, consistently speaking, haven’t seen the best of him yet. If I was Piroe, I’d be wanting to show more of myself on a regular basis.”
Piroe might have heard what Goodman stated as the striker scored the crucial goal. Moreover, LUFC DATA spotlighted on X that Piroe has now scored four of his seven goals for Leeds in 2024 after the 75th minute of matches as a substitute.
