Leeds join race for Atletico Madrid star

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Atletico Madrid and Brazil forward Matheus Cunha is heading to the Premier League this winter.

The report claims that the race for the 23-year-old is wide open, with English clubs interested. Cunha joined Atletico Madrid in August 2021, after an impressive campaign with Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga. However, after falling out of favor with Diego Simeone, and just starting two games this season, the Brazilian is looking for an exit.

Cunha is a very experienced player at 23, helping Brazil win the 2020 Olympic games in football.

The race for his signature will be difficult, with Everton and Wolverhampton also in the race – Revelo report that Wolves are leading the pack. Cunha is looking to move for first team football, and Atletico will not stand in his way in January.

Would Cunha be a good signing for Leeds?

The forward fits into Jesse Marsch’s high intensity style of play; he is quick, committed defensively and has the ability to create for others. Patrick Bamford is still struggling with injuries, and time is not on Rodrigo Moreno’s side so Cunha would be ideal competition. The Brazilian fits with Leeds’ future attack at just 23 years – Gnonto (19), Greenwood (20), Summerville (21) and Gelhadrt (20) can grow alongside him.
