Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored 14 Premier League goals this season and has been the most in-form English striker this season behind Harry Kane.
He recently returned to the England squad after a huge gap and earned his 12th cap for the Three Lions in a friendly earlier this year, sparking hopes of a chance to play in the World Cup this summer.
Thomas Tuchel will announce his squad later today. However, the England squad have already been leaked, and there are some notable absentees from the list of names.
Calvert-Lewin is not one of the players selected for the World Cup squad, and it seems he may have made his last appearance for England.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out, but one Leeds-linked striker has made a surprising entry
England captain Harry Kane will carry the goalscoring burden for the Three Lions in the World Cup this summer, as he has been doing for years.
Ollie Watkins, who has scored the same number of league goals as Calvert-Lewin, has also made the cut for the World Cup squad ahead of the summer.
Barcelona’s Marcus Rashford is also in the mix, but surprisingly, Ivan Toney has made the World Cup squad ahead of a striker such as Calvert-Lewin.
He has been playing in Saudi Arabia in the last two seasons and was linked with a move to Leeds in January, when everyone felt that he would want to return to England to boost his World Cup chances.
However, Tuchel has selected the former Brentford striker regardless of his playing in Saudi Arabia.
The Leeds striker deserved it more than Toney
Calvert-Lewin has proved himself again in the Premier League and is an English striker who is in form ahead of the World Cup this summer.
Watkins in the World Cup squad makes sense as the Aston Villa striker has hit form at the right time and proved himself for England on the big stage.
However, there is little justification for Tuchel picking Toney over Calvert-Lewin at the current stage of their respective careers.
With all due respect to the Saudi Pro League, it is nowhere close to the level of the Premier League, where Calvert-Lewin has scored 14 times this season.
The decision can be put down to Tuchel’s personal preference for Toney over Calvert-Lewin, rather than anything performance-related.
There is no way that Calvert_ Lewin is a better player than Toney . The goals that Lewin scores have been more luck than good goal scoring . Toney is afar more dangerous attacker than Lewin
