Leeds United have a number of positions they want to address this summer as they solidify their place in the top half of the Premier League table. Victor Orta has drafted up a list of potential targets in each position. However, one man could solve a number of Leeds’ problems going into next season.
Maxwel Cornet has impressed for Lyon in recent years scoring over 20 goals in his 183 appearances for the French outfit whilst also starring on the international stage with Ivory Coast.
Leeds have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and have now made their play for the £20 million rated star. United have made a bid of £10 million for the Lyon man in recent days. That may have been turned down but its unlikely to be the end of the pursuit with plenty expecting Leeds to return with an improved offer.
Why would Cornet be such a good signing though? At first you might roll your eyes when you hear he’s a left-back. With Leeds snapping up Junior Firpo from Barcelona the pursuit for a left-back appears to be over. However, Cornet offers widespread versatility and can even play on the wing. Therefore, not only could he solve Leeds’ wing conundrum, with Orta desperate to sign reinforcements on the flank, he’d also provide cover for a number of positions providing vital squad depth.
If Leeds can get him for less than the £20 million asking price then it’ll be a bargain.
