Of all the players currently at Leeds who are out of contract, most Leeds fans would agree that the one player they wanted to see sign a new deal the most was Rhyse Martin.

Well this morning the fans have got their wish with Martin signing a new two-year deal to remain at the club until the end of 2024.

This comes after he only signed a one-year extension last season after a difficult start to the campaign before showing great form after the half way point.

This year, despite Leeds’ struggles, he has been exceptional playing both second-row and centre. He has scored five tries in all competitions too.

Martin joined Leeds back in 2019 midway through the season and has been a prolific goal kicker for the Rhinos even kicking two goals in their Challenge Cup Final win in 2020.

Verdict

This is absolutely the right move. Martin has been top drawer in 2022 and even though Leeds have other options in this position, Martin will continue to help those younger players develop in the role such as Morgan Gannon.

His new found ability to shine at centre is also an asset to Leeds especially with the Rhinos set to juggle around a few centres to create more cap space ahead of next season.

Ultimately, however, his brilliant form made this decision a must.
