Leeds sign Salzburg defender Max Wober

Leeds United have completed the signing of defender Maximilian Wober from Red Bull Salzburg, subject to a work permit.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at Elland Road until 2027. The deal is reported to be worth around £14m including add-ons. The move sees the defender reunite with Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, who signed him for Salzburg in 2019.

Wober has been handed the number 39 shirt, and everything has been completed pending his work permit. He could be in line to make his debut against Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round on Sunday. The 24-year-old previously played for Ajax and Sevilla.

The Austrian becomes the third player that Marsch has signed from Salzburg since the American replaced Marcelo Bielsa last February, after he also added Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen to his squad in the summer.
