Leeds United clinched a 2-0 away victory against Cardiff City on Saturday, with a journalist from the Yorkshire Evening Post praising Joël Piroe for scoring the crucial insurance goal.

Before the match between Cardiff City and Leeds United began, there was a heartfelt tribute to Sol Bamba, who had played for both teams. Once the game started, the Whites got a lift in the 23rd minute, giving them an advantage that they maintained for the rest of the match.

Cardiff City defender Joel Bagan was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul, putting his team at a disadvantage. Leeds took full advantage of the situation, with Largie Ramazani scoring in the 30th minute to give the away side a 1-0 lead.

Daniel Farke and his team fired off 11 shots in the first half, while the Bluebirds managed just one, struggling to adjust to playing with 10 men. Despite their dominance, Leeds couldn’t seal the game until the later stages of the second half.

Joël Piroe earns praise for crucial goal

In the second half, many anticipated that Leeds would capitalize on a struggling Cardiff City side, but that didn’t happen. Leeds managed just four shots in those 45 minutes.

However, in the 87th minute, substitute Joël Piroe found the back of the net, securing an important insurance goal. Moreover, journalist Joe Donnohue praised Piroe’s performance off the bench.

“Joel Piroe gets his flowers from the travelling fans at the end, which is fair enough,” Donnohue wrote on X. “Leeds needed a clincher from somewhere and he’s as confident a finisher as there is at the club. Ramazani and Farke give the three-cheered salute to the away end, too.”

A win is a win, and Leeds come away from Wales with all three points. This victory puts Farke’s squad back in the top six, but questions will linger about their performance against Cardiff City.

Leeds is now shifting their focus to another struggling team in the Championship: Coventry City. The Whites will host the Sky Blues next Saturday and are expected to be favorites in this matchup as they aim to close the gap on the top two spots.
