Leeds United have several important decisions to make this summer as they prepare for the 2026/27 season, but one player’s future now appears all but settled.
There is a growing sense of optimism around Elland Road after the Whites comfortably secured their Premier League status and finished 14th in their first season back in the top flight.
With survival achieved, the focus has shifted to the transfer window and how Leeds can continue to improve. Daniel Farke is eager to add more quality to his squad, with the club targeting players who can make a genuine impact as they look to build on last season’s progress rather than simply avoid a relegation battle.
However, Leeds also need to move players on as part of their summer plans, and it appears one of the club’s promotion heroes is edging closer than ever to leaving Elland Road.
Leeds name asking price for Joel Piroe
Joel Piroe was the Championship’s top scorer in the 2024/25 campaign as his goals powered Leeds to promotion to the Premier League.
However, the forward became a bit-part player at Leeds last season as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor usurped his place in the team.
He became the fourth-choice striker at Leeds, and while there were rumours around him in January, he stayed put at Elland Road.
However, his departure this summer seems inevitable as Leeds are keen to add more quality to their forward line in the upcoming transfer window.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds have already identified the price they want from Piroe’s departure this summer.
It has been claimed that Leeds are ready to accept offers in the region of ÂŁ8m and ÂŁ10m for the forward before the end of the transfer window.
Piroe is a proven commodity in the Championship, but Leeds acknowledge that he is not good enough to thrive in the Premier League.
Rangers have been linked with an interest in the striker, and Middlesbrough are also interested in a forward who has proved himself in the second tier of English football.
Daniel Farke showed little faith in him last season
Joel Piroe was one of Daniel Farke’s most trusted players during Leeds United’s promotion-winning Championship campaign. But his role diminished significantly once Dominic Calvert-Lewin established himself in the Premier League side.
As the season progressed, Farke appeared to place greater trust in Lukas Nmecha, while Brenden Aaronson and Noah Okafor were also used in advanced supporting roles ahead of Piroe on occasions.
The Leeds manager has previously suggested that, despite Piroe’s outstanding finishing ability, he has reservations about whether the striker possesses the physical attributes needed to consistently succeed in the Premier League.
With Leeds expected to target another forward this summer, it increasingly feels as though Piroe’s future lies away from Elland Road.
Leeds should have moved him on last summer. They would have made more money. I wish him well but Leeds knew when they bought him he was only been brought in to get us out of the Championship. He never looked PL standard.
