Leeds United linked winger left out of squad for his club’s opening game

Jonathan Rowe has been left out of Norwich City's opening day squad

Leeds United linked winger Jonathan Rowe has been left out of the squad for Norwich City’s first Championship game. The Whites have been following the winger to replace Crysencio Summerville this summer.

Summerville left for West Ham United in a deal worth £25 million plus add-ons. It was a sorrowful departure for The West Yorkshire outfit as they’d see their best player leave which left a big dent in the squad.

At the moment, the frontline still lacks depth with the left wing position up for grabs. There are players who can play on the left but mostly they won’t be able to replicate the Dutchman’s performances.

This will be key to The 49ers’ promotion as even with the best player in the league they couldn’t secure Premier League football last season. Jonathan Rowe has been a top priority with the club even making a £7 million initial bid.

Norwich City rejected the bid claiming it was too low for their academy graduate. Now, United are getting ready to present a new bid and would like to close the deal for under £10 million.

However, there has been a twist in the story as The Sun reported that French Giants Marseille are looking to hijack the deal. Roberto De Zerbi’s side is looking at a deal of around £8 million.

According to Norfolk newspaper The Pink Un, Jonathan Rowe requested the withdrawal from the squad himself. As of now, Marseille remain front runners to seal the deal.

Rowe’s decision to withdraw from the match-day squad is a positive development for Leeds. If the English winger has decided to make a move then The 49ers will be looking to act fast.

For now, Les Olympiens’ bid stands ahead of Leeds’. Considering there is only a year left to Joanthan’s contract a deal below £10 million looks possible.

Although, previously Norwich City has asked £15 million for the 21-year-old. This is a tricky situation as The Canaries might have to settle for less as Rowe might have decided to leave.

The only plausible reason for Rowe to not play is because he’s decided to leave. There can also be other reasons but the rumours surrounding Jonathan calls for this conclusion.

As mentioned Leeds United might be in a crunch as they’ll need to confirm their stance on the winger. If they fail, the club still has other options but they’ll need to stop being slow.
