Leeds United eye Premier League star
This summer is set to be a very interesting one for the club. The season has been very tough on the squad, and Daniel Farke has done a great job overall. Heading into next season, Leeds will definitely need to upgrade on some areas of the team if they are to stand a chance of Premier League survival.
Over the past few weeks, Illan Meslier’s future has become clearer. After being benched following errors against Swansea, the French stopper could see out the rest of the season on the bench. Leeds are set to replace him this summer.
According to The Shields Gazette, the Whites have shortlisted Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope. The England international’s contract at St. James’ Park runs out in 2026, and he is attracting a lot of interest heading into the summer. Pope comes with a lot of Premier League experience and will catch the eye of multiple clubs. Newcastle are looking to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of next season, which could open the door for Pope’s exit.
Nick Pope will be an upgrade on Illan Meslier
If Leeds do make the Premier League, signing Nick Pope will be a no brainer. It has become increasingly clear that Meslier’s time at Elland Road has come to an end. The Frenchman has failed to develop over the past few seasons and is still committing the same mistakes he had as a youngster. At 25, his value may be at its highest, and Leeds could easily cash in.
