Illan Meslier is not a name Leeds United fans want to hear over the past few weeks.
The young French stopper has been at fault for recent high profile errors that could hamper the club’s promotion bid. Meslier was at fault for two goals in the draw against Swansea City. Karl Darlow has been put in goal for the past two games and as it stands, Meslier may be on the bench for the rest of the season.
Leeds United sit top of the Championship with just five games to go. The Whites are level on points with Burnley and just two points ahead of Sheffield United. The race for the two automatic promotion spots could come down to the wire in the upcoming weeks.

Illan Meslier has been first choice goalkeeper for Leeds for most of his time at the club. Despite a few shaky games, he has been reliable when called upon. However over the last few years, question marks have been raised over his future as the club’s long term number one. Since Sam Allardyce benched him in Leeds’ last Premier League campaign, it has been a shaky period for the 25-year old.
Now according to Football Insider, Meslier’s future has been decided. Leeds United are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the Frenchman this summer. Sources within the club have said that the keeper is no longer in the club’s long term plans. And with a high chance of securing Premier League promotion soon, Leeds could be in the market for an upgrade in the market.
Time for the Whites to move on
There have been genuine concerns over Meslier’s ability over the past few seasons. The keeper seems to have stalled in his development. He keeps on making the same mistakes he was making four years ago. And now, barring any miraculous turnaround, he has cost himself his Leeds United career. The club must do it’s best to move on in the near future. Signing a top replacement is necessary as the team prepare for the Premier League.
