Leeds United 6-0 Stoke City – Joel Piroe proves why the club do not need a new striker for the Premier League

Monday was a monumental day for Leeds United fans. They got one of their biggest home wins of the season, and just hours later, their team was promoted to the Premier League.

The Whites are set to return to the English top flight for the first time since 2020. When Leeds lost the Championship playoff final last year, no one really tipped them to bounce back and have a great season. Especially when Burnley were relegated to the Championship that year.

Fast forward a year later, and Daniel Farke has achieved what Leeds hired him to do when he was brought to the club.

Leeds smashed Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road. Coming into the game, the last time the Potters had conceded more than five goals in a game was in February 2024.

Joel Piroe opened the scoring just six minutes in, in what was a sign of things to come. The Whites then scored another five goals in the space of half and hour, and added one in the second half to complete the rout. After the game, Leeds boss Daniel Farke was full of praise for Piroe, who scored four goals on the day:

”He had a dip but he’s got out of that. Performances were better but the goals didn’t go in. They like a bottle of ketchup, it all comes out at once.”

Leeds have now secured their place in the Premier League next season.

Piroe shows Leeds do not need a new striker for the Premier League

Joel Piroe has had an up and down season this year, and his performances over the past month were not all that impressive. But one thing the striker knows how to do is score goals.

Over the last four league seasons, Piroe has scored 74 goals. Many might think that will not translate to the Premier League, but that is not a certainty. Patrick Bamford was prolific in the Championship, and also ended up with a 17-goal Premier League this season.

All Leeds need to do is find him a decent back up or competition for the spot, for now, Joel Piroe is a talented goalscorer.
