Despite being relegated from the Premier League last season, many expected Luton Town to be in the race to challenge Leeds United and other clubs for promotion to England’s top flight for the 2025-26 campaign. However, that hasn’t been the case.
Through four matches, Luton Town has struggled with one point and three losses. As a result, the Hatters are in danger of falling too far behind if they don’t wake up after the FIFA international break.
So far, this Championship season appears to be a tight one for both the two automatic promotions and the play-off spots. Nonetheless, it’s still early and anything can happen, which is why Luton Town have entered the free agent market as they attempt to put Leeds and others on notice.
Luton Town sign former Chelsea standout to bolster attack
The Hatters are looking to show the other Championship teams that they’re not out of the race despite starting this campaign at the bottom of the table. Former Crystal Palace and Chelsea winger Victor Moses has joined Town on a free transfer, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old makes the move to Kenilworth Road after spending the last four years with Spartak Moscow, where he initially arrived on loan from Chelsea in 2020.
“I had a few offers from Europe, but I said to my agent that I set my mind on staying over here, and here we are,” Moses said in an interview with the club’s official website. “I’m very pleased and honoured to be at this club and I just can’t wait to get going.
“I spoke to Rob before I came, I spoke to the directors and they told me the plan and the history of the club, and I just want to be part of the success. I want to come here and enjoy my football, work hard for the club and for the team, and get back to where we belong in the Premier League.”
With Luton Town entering the free-agent market to bolster their team before the January window, Leeds has also been urged to explore players without a club to tweak any positions that need improving to prepare the squad for a tight race.
