Anderlecht set their sights on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier
Meslier is again out of the matchday squads after Lucas Perri regained fitness and returned to the team in the last couple of weeks.
The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season, and clubs such as Inter Milan are keen to explore the possibility of signing him on a free transfer next summer.
A January exit seemed unlikely, but according to Voetbal Nieuws, Meslier has emerged as a shock target for Belgian giants Anderlecht in the winter window.
They are considering bringing in a new goalkeeper as they are worried about Colin Coosemans’ declining form. His performances this season have been poor, and Anderlecht are now replacing him.

Meslier needs to move on
Leeds wanted to get rid of Meslier in the summer, and it became apparent that he had no future at Elland Road once Lucas Perri arrived from Lyon.
He was heavily linked with a return to France. However, he stayed on beyond the end of the window as Leeds didn’t receive suitable offers for the Frenchman.
The goalkeeper is the third choice in the squad and has not played a single minute of football. Leeds are pushing to sell him when the transfer window reopens in January.
Leeds are concerned that Meslier’s contract situation will encourage clubs to wait until next summer to snap him up on a free transfer, which also makes more financial sense to the Frenchman.
However, if Anderlecht’s interest is serious, Leeds have a decent chance of selling the Frenchman for a nominal transfer fee in the winter transfer window.
Meslier himself needs to move on as he needs a fresh start somewhere else, and the Belgian league could be the ideal place for him to rekindle his career.
The Frenchman should accept an offer if Anderlecht make one and cuts the cord with Leeds in January, rather than allow the situation to fester until the end of the season.
