Leeds United confirm player departure ahead of the summer – A good move for everyone involved

Leeds United are preparing for the big Championship game against Swansea City at Elland Road on Saturday. However, the technical team behind the scenes are taking decisions ahead of the summer and a player has already been allowed to leave the club.

Farke and his Leeds United team are focused on the automatic promotion race, but decisions are being made behind the scenes on players, both incoming and outgoing.

The Whites are keen to ensure that they keep the players who they feel are good enough to succeed at Elland Road, and are also mindful about the youngsters at the club getting adequate experience.

Ahead of the end of the season, Leeds have confirmed the departure of a young player on loan for the rest of the campaign as they seek to give him more experience in senior football.

Young goalkeeper leaves Leeds United for the rest of the season

The 18-year-old goalkeeper, Darryl Ombang, spent a month on loan at non-league club Farsley Celtic last year and has been a part of Leeds’ Under-18s set-up.

Ombang, who has played for the England Under-17s, joined the Whites at the start of the 2021/22 season and linked up with the Under-18 squad.

He signed a two-year professional contract in 2022 and put pen to paper on a two-year extension last summer.

He has been allowed to join National League side Hartlepool United on loan until the end of the season.

The goalkeeper is likely to be on the bench for his new team for their game against Halifax Town on Saturday, having completed the move in time to be eligible.

“Leeds United can announce Darryl Ombang has completed a loan move to Vanarama National League side Hartlepool United”, a statement on the club’s website read.

“The goalkeeper links up with Anthony Limbrick’s team for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, who currently sit eight points adrift of the Play-Off positions.

“The 19-year-old previously enjoyed a loan spell with National League North side Farsley Celtic earlier in the campaign and has recently featured for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side in the Premier League 2.

“Everyone at the club wishes Darryl well during his time at Victoria Park, and we look forward to seeing his further development.”

A good move for the youngster

Ombang has played just twice in the Premier League 2 this season and needs more game time to further develop in the coming years.

A loan switch to a non-league side is a good move for him as he will get a taste of senior football at a decent level while he is still part of Leeds United.

Leeds need to find good loan moves for more of their youngsters as they seek to give them a proper development path for a number of their talents.

Chelsea have shown that a good academy and smart loan moves could end up being hugely beneficial to a club financially in this day and age of the FFP.
