Leeds United are again locked in an enthralling race for Premier League promotion. But Leeds fans will be hoping for a different outcome to last season.
Leeds United perhaps made unwanted history last year becoming arguably the greatest Championship side to miss out on automatic promotion. Making matters worse, they made it to Wembley for the play-off final but lost it 1-0 to Southampton being unable to break down the Saints despite being favourites going into the game.
This means that this season, Leeds United can ill-afford any slip ups but so far have made some minor missteps. They had a sluggish start to the season and missed out on going top of the league when they failed to hold onto a 2-1 lead against Sunderland due to an Illian Meslier error.
Sunderland and Burnley have emerged as Leeds United’s main rivals for promotion back to the Premier League and a 0-0 draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate proved to be another set back with Leeds falling five points behind leaders Sunderland. Fortunately, Burnley also slipped up so Leeds are still level on points with them in second spot.
But promotion back to the Premier League could get even harder with a massive transfer on the horizon.

Sunderland set to land major promotion blow to Leeds United
Jordan Henderson is undoubtedly a Liverpool legend. The midfielder joined the Reds from Sunderland in 2011 and stayed at the club despite nearly being used in a swap deal for Clint Dempsey.
He would go on to spend over 10 years at the club winning everything and all as captain including lifting the Champions League and Premier League trophies in back to back seasons.
He is also lorded as an England international having helped England to the Euros 2021 Final under Gareth Southgate, but his roots are always in Sunderland and there are reports that he could return to the club in the January transfer window as he is unsettled in Ajax, and a recent report by Leeds Live has only added to this.
If Sunderland can add someone of his quality and experience to their squad, they could become uncatchable making promotion even harder for Leeds.
