Georginio Rutter is still the most expensive signing for Leeds United. He arrived in 2023 with heavy expectations on his shoulders. But the Frenchman’s start to life at Elland Road was not the best.

Rutter played 13 games and had just one assist. He was frequently criticized for the fans and was left on the bench sometimes by the coach. The 23-year old turned his career around when Leeds went back down to the Championship. Rutter had seven goals and 15 assists in the league as the club lost the play off final last summer.

Brighton swooped in and triggered his release clause late in the transfer market, which left Leeds close to no time to replace him.

Looking at recent headlines, it looks like the Whites are set to make another record signing.

Leeds are back in for James McAtee after Pep Guardiola kept the midfielder at the Etihad this season. After a successful loan spell with Sheffield United, many expected McAtee to move for first team football, with Elland Road one of the destinations. But he remained with Manchester City.

It looks like the Whites could return to sign the 22-year old this summer. With one year left on his current deal, clubs are lined up to make an offer. TEAMtalk is now reporting that Manchester City will raise the price for McAtee to £35million.

Is McAtee worth a record fee?

Valuing a player in this transfer market will often be debatable. But James McAtee is a fantastic player. Leeds, like other clubs, might lean towards the previous £25million valuation.

The Whites need an upgrade in attacking midfield – Brenden Aaronson had a productive season, but his overall play was a big questionable. Leeds adding McAtee would be a huge boost in quality at that position.
