Leeds United could save up to £5M next season with this move – could make way for new signings

Going into the summer transfer window, Leeds United need some serious reinforcements. The Premier League grows difficult every season for newly promoted clubs.

Just last year, Burnley were relegated despite having one of the best Championship seasons in recent history. Leeds also hit the 100-point mark this campaign, but will be hoping they do not suffer the same fate as Burnley. Club chairman Paraag Marathe has promised the fans that there will be activity this summer.

“Together we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny we are allowed to spend to compete in the Premier League. I’m under no illusions that it’s going to be easy. I know all the stats, that last season’s three promoted clubs went right back down.”

Leeds are expected to spend heavily this summer as they plan to build a squad to survive relegation.

According to reports, the transfer budget is set at £150million this summer. Which should be enough, considering two of the promoted clubs this season spent less. Leeds will also have to be wary of PSR rules. The club will have to be cautious when spending such an amount.

Financial constraints were the reason why the club had a quiet January window according to Daniel Farke.

One way Leeds could spend and balance the books is to sell some players. Jack Harrison is one player the club could do with getting rid of. His reported £90,000-a-week wages are currently the highest at Elland Road. The winger has not played at the club for the last two seasons. And with Everton open to signing him, this should be a move the club should push for.

Jack Harrison exit would be a financial boost

Getting Harrison off the books would means the club will no longer have his wages for next year. His current deal means he earns around £4,680,000 gross a year – close to £5million. That much space available could mean there would be space to sign some players who could earn similar wages, but would be useful to the team.
