The departure of a key player at Leeds United has been discussed around Elland Road.
With Leeds firmly in the promotion race, this summer will be very important to the club. Last year, the club lost the playoff final to Southampton. Because the Whites failed to reach the Premier League, they lost key players during the transfer window.
Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all left to the Premier League for huge fees. The attraction of top level football is almost too strong for any player to resist. If Leeds fail to win promotion again, they could lose some players next year.

Graham Smyth has discussed Joel Piroe, and if Leeds United would accept a bid for him in the near future:
“Like we saw with [Glen] Kamara, Leeds saw an opportunity there to sell a player who they signed for £5million, a perfectly good player in the Championship but they thought they could augment the midfield with a different profile and they saw an opportunity to make money.
“And there was no sentiment whatsoever in that situation, it was ‘yeah, we can do better; we’re getting more money here, let’s pull the trigger on this’. I could possibly see that being the case with Piroe as well.”
Piroe earned the move to Elland Road after a solid season with Swansea in the championship, and it has not been ruled out that a promotion rival will decide to pay big money to sign him.
“If a Championship club is saying ‘hang on a minute, we play two up top, he’s going to get 15, 20 goals and he could shoot us to promotion, let’s go and spend £12million on him’. You know, a relegated side perhaps, 12 or 13 million [pound].
“If you were Leeds and you looked at that – it’s going to be difficult to turn down.”
Should the club sell Joel Piroe?
In the shock loss to Millwall a week ago, fans were visibly frustrated with how Joel Piroe played. Some even suggested that he be dropped from the first team.
Piroe was dropped in the game against QPR, but came off the bench to score in the second half. The striker showed his importance to the team.
Leeds fans need to understand that Piroe is playing without the creativity of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville from last year. But with six goals so far, he is still having a great season.
